Over 1007 students and staff have already signed up
The University has an ambitious target of recycling over 80% of its waste by 2020, through the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and this is your opportunity to sign-up and pledge to help. The recycling rate is currently 35%. By recycling 80% of our waste Kingston will become one of the top 20% of ‘Green Universities’ in the UK.
By joining The 3Rs Pledge you will be able to get more information about what the university is doing to achieve the target, how we are progressing and what you can do to help.
I pledge to:
I will find out what Item s can be Reduced and Reused, and what materials are collected for Recycling at the University.
I will Reduce the amount of waste I produce, I will Reuse as many items as I can, I will Recycle more, and I will buy products made with Recycled Content.
I will encourage my colleagues and friends to take the 3R Pledge.
Actions You Can Take
I pledge to reduce by:
-carrying refillable water bottles and reuseable mugs* to use throughout the day;
-keeping a reuseable bag to hand and avoiding plastic bags for shopping;
-saying no to straws and asking my local restaurants/pubs/clubs/bars to sign up to the Last Straw campaign
-using my leftovers for lunch the next day;
-donating unwanted good quality items to local charity shops or University or station bookshelves;
I pledge to reuse by:
-use reusable cups and cutlery and crockery*;
-using all my scrap paper;
-sharing stuff with my friends family;
I pledge to recycle by:
-using the University recycling bins correctly and encouraging my friends to do the same, using my recycling facilities at home;
-using the kitchen waste bins in the University halls of residence for food waste, separating my food waste at home;
-separating my unwanted electricals and electronics taking them for recycling locally
