Elections

This idea was the result of a motion passed at our Big Student Meeting (BSM).  You can read full details of the motion here.

**UPDATE**

Election Reforms

This motion was discussed by the Trustee Board and will not be upheld for the following reasons:

The Trustee Board understands that there are issues and along with the Union will start the process of addressing those issues, including a review of the process for canvassing of voters. Guidelines will be issued in advanced of the next elections to address the problems identified in the motions and how the union can ensure election rules are adhered to. The Union will invite a focus group of students to feed into this process, will improve training for candidates and will increase its campaigning on what elections are all about.

There will be stalls two weeks prior to nominations opening across campuses which will explain the process, job roles and democratic structures to students. Efforts will further be made to implement an ‘Elections Self-Care’ strategy to ensure that they do not induce a negative impact on a student’s mental health. The student focus group will be held after the network elections in October.
