The full-time elected roles within the Union are split into 2 main parts; your role as the lead representative for your own campus, and your role supporting the wider work of the Union as part of a team with the other full-time officers, supported by the Unions staff team.

Campus Officer Specific Role

  • To make sure all the Union of Kingston Students opportunities are publicised and available your campus.
  • Provide a link between the students you meet and the wider activities and democratic structures of the Union of Kingston Students.
  • Support students to run student-led and University events that are relevant to the needs of your campus students.
  • Lead on campaigns relevant to the students on your campus.
  • To ensure that appropriate student feedback structures are in place on your campus.
  • To represent the Union of Kingston Students at induction, welcome, Freshers’ and open day activities that take place at your campus
  • To attend the relevant faculty forum meeting(s) based at your campus and liaise with relevant members departments regarding the follow-up actions resulting from those.
  • Building a relationship with the relevant Deans and other senior staff in those faculties, to take issues from students on your campus to them directly

All officers will be responsible for working together to:

  • Support Student Networks, Student Groups and members of Union Meeting
  • Working with Union of Kingston Students Management Team and Trustee Board to provide strategy and direction to the Union of Kingston Students as an organisation.
  • Chair relevant Union of Kingston Students democratic and internal meetings.
  • Membership of a number of University wide committees as the lead student representative.
  • Receiving essential summer training through the Union of Kingston Students and NUS.
  • Operate as a cohesive, coherent and effective full-time officer team.
  • Taking a full part in the Union of Kingston Students wide decision making through Union Meeting, trustee board and the AGM.
  • Keeping students up-to-date with your work both on your campus and in your wider responsibilities

In addition to this and your Campus Officer role, you will have wider responsibilities for the Union of Kingston Students as a whole, as part of the full-time officer team and as a Trustee of the union. You will be assigned by the Union’s Trustee Board lead responsibility in one of the following areas;

Academic Affairs:

  • Lead and coordinate union officer input on education-related committees.
  • Union main point of contact for KU senior staff about student feedback. 
  • Union Board of Governors .representative.
  • SGUL & Partner College link.
  • Strategic Oversight of Course Reps. 

Union Development:

  • Strategic oversight of Union services and activities.
  • Lead and coordinate with development of the Union
  • Chair of Trustee Board
  • Officer Representative on Trustee Board sub-committees. 
  • Strategic oversight of Freshers' Fayre

Student Activities:

  • Strategic oversight of Union Activities (Sports, Societies, & Volunteering)
  • Officer contact for KU Bars
  • Lead officer for sustainability within the Union and work with KU. 
  • Main Union links for interactive community relations projects with KU.
  • Lead officer for support of Student Groups and their contact person for Union Meetings. 

Student Welfare:

  • Lead officer for support of liberation campaigns and Student Networks and their contact person for Union Meetings. 
  • Lead officer for Student Life / Welfare
  • Lead officer for History Months
  • Strategic oversight of Union Advice Services
