Nominations Are Now Open

 

Every year we hold the Society Awards Ceremony to recognise and celebrate the hard work and achievements of Union of Kingston Student Societies. 

Information about the award categories can be found below. Nominations are now open! 

   

1. Society of the Year 

The Society of the Year Award aims to reward the society that has offered the best service to its members, good organisation of activities, a wide variety and number of events, improvements on previous years, involvement within the Union and overall organisation and structure.

Won by V.A.S.T. Society in 2022/23.

2. Outstanding Academic Societies

The Outstanding Academic Societies would’ve provided high levels of academic support to its members which could be through inviting guest speakers to the University, hosting workshops and debates.

Won by Psychology Society in 2022/23.

3. Outstanding Arts and Activities Societies 

The Outstanding Arts and Activities Societies would have consistently provided its members with a variety of opportunities through the delivery of well-organised activities and events.

Won by Film Society in 2022/23.

4. Outstanding Cultural Societies

The Outstanding Cultural Societies would have provided its members with outstanding events, activities and support which showed excellent organisation, commitment and delivery.

Won by Filipino Society in 2022/23.

5. Outstanding Faith Societies

The Outstanding Faith Societies would have provided amazing support for their members, quality events and extra-curricular activities, as well as engaging with the wider student demographic.

Won by Islamic Society in 2022/23.

6. Outstanding Liberation and Campaigns Societies

The Outstanding Liberation and Campaigns Societies Award aims to reward the best Liberation and Campaign society during the year. This society has recruited new members, provided the best services and opportunities for its member.

Won by Disabled Students Society in 2022/23.

7. Newcomer Society of the Year

An award dedicated to celebrating the societies that hit the ground running this year and have excelled at the organisation and frequency of their events, involvement within the Union and overall with their society.

Won by Disabled Students Society in 2022/23.

8. Best Inter-Society Collaboration 

Societies are so fantastic alone but imagine what they could achieve if they came together and collaborated? Any societies that have done just that are eligible for this award whether it be a trip, conference or social.

Won by ABACUS-Arab-Nepalese-Kurdish Societies in 2022/23.

9. Society Contribution to the Community

Engaging with the wider community outside of society members can offer a wealth of valuable experiences. Whether it’s across the University community or out into the City and beyond, a society that 

actively looks to have an impact outside of the Union could be eligible for this award.

Won by Islamic Society in 2022/23.

 

Individual Awards 

1. Outstanding Contribution to Societies

This is awarded to a committee member/member/associate of a society who has provided an outstanding contribution to the running, operation and activity of one or more societies for at least one year.  This award is to acknowledge consistent service beyond that which is normally expected of a member/ committee member/associate.  It should be stressed that the award is for someone who has made an outstanding contribution and not just someone who has done a good job.  Every nomination will be carefully discussed and considered by the Awards Committee. 

Won by Steve Kent, Naeem Habib, Iain Cecil, Zee Turner-Yusuf, and Tianna Wilson-Aghayere in 2022/23.

2. Outstanding Contribution to Committee

This is awarded to a committee member of a society who has provided an outstanding contribution to the running, operation and activity of one or more societies for at least one year.  This award is to acknowledge consistent service beyond that which is normally expected of a committee member.  It should be stressed that the award is for someone who has made an outstanding contribution and not just someone who has done a good job.  

Won by Georgina Annie, Marx Manoza, Sini Rajesh, Zeynep Zee Sertkaya, Kais Bouarissa, and Dominika Zabielska in 2022/23.

 

Every nomination will be carefully discussed and considered by the Awards Committee.

The Awards Committee is made up of the following members–

• Vice President Activities
