Our structure

Here at the Students' Union, there are currently two student-led LGBT+ groups, dividing our social events and campaigns work.

LGBT+ Society: Led by the LGBT+ Society committee, creating a safe social space.

LGBT+ Community Group: Led by the LGBT+ Officer, focusing on representing and campaigning for LGBT+ students, hearing your concerns and generally working to improve the experience of LGBT+ students at Kingston University.

If you would like to find out more, don't hesitate to get in touch, you'll find the contact information on this page!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here you will be able to find (hopefully) your questions answered. If not, don't hesitate to ask!

Q: I'm an LGBT+ ally, can I join?

  • A: We welcome allies to join in with our activities & campaigns. However, those we consider to be our "membership" are only those who self-identify as LGBT+ (such as the regulations above). This is in place to ensure that it remains a safe space and that it is created for and by LGBT+ individuals :).

If there is a campaign or event you would like to take part in, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Q: What does the LGBT+ Officer do and who are they?

  • A: The LGBT+ Officer (otherwise known as a Liberation Community Representative)is an individual elected by our membership to represent them within the Union & University. It is their duty to run campaigns, receive feedback from the members, and represent the membership & their voice at meetings (such as our Student Council). The LGBT+ Officer may work with the University to implement changes to improve the experience of the LGBT+ Community here at Kingston.

  • Your LGBT+ Officer for 2019/20 is Shane Simpkin
