no matter what kind of career you are planning for, these skills are invaluable and necessary for any workplace.

what skills do employers look for?

•    organisation and time management

when working on any project, it is important to be able to organise your workflow successfully. this can relate to organising and sticking to deadlines; making schedules; managing multitasking, and working with a strategy. any work can quickly get overwhelming without a proper plan of action, and so scheduling in advance is really important.

•    teamwork and negotiation

people skills are vital in the workplace to ensure that you can work as professionally and effectively as possible. people will always have differing ideas, but great things can only be achieved by working through these together. with kindness, listening skills and a strong knowledge of negotiation, anything can be achieved.

•    problem solving

strategic thinking, forming strategy and attention to detail are all important in order to work through problems in your work. whilst it can be difficult to see where you’ve gone wrong, with the ability to think over anything that’s gone wrong is critical in moving forward with your work.

•    perseverance & resilience

it’s easy to feel set back and uninspired when things don’t go your way. however, the ability to go on and finish better than ever is vital in the workplace. it is important to keep your goals in mind and, when things go wrong, to re-evaluate your method of reaching them.

•    communication

effective communication is absolutely vital to any team. learning about how best you can use body language, email tone and writing skills to your advantage will allow you to better communicate with anyone you work with. presenting information accurately, clearly and professionally means that your work will be as effective and engaging as possible.
