From Monday 7th February to Wednesday 9th February, we invited all Kingston University students to vote in a referendum that asked the question: "Should the Students’ Union support UCU’s upcoming strike?"

Thank you to all students who voted. 1286 students voted, far surpassing the benchmark of 500 to validate the referendum.

You voted Yes - the Students’ Union will support UCU’s upcoming strike.

82% of students voted yes, and 18% of students voted no.

What does the result of the referendum mean?

As an outcome of the ‘Yes’ result, Union of Kingston Students will now work to the following:

  • We’ll show support for University staff in their upcoming industrial action. As a reminder, UCU announced up to 10 days of strikes this month, following their strikes in December. The dates affecting Kingston University are Monday 21st - Tuesday 22nd February and 28th - 2nd March 2022. In addition to this, UCU are also taking action known as ‘action short of strike’, which means when they are not striking, they will not do any work outside of their contract (for example covering for absent colleagues’
  • We’ll be publishing more over the coming weeks about why it’s important to support UCU’s industrial action and how you can support UCU.
  • We’ll organise student solidarity during the strike dates, which will include visiting the picket lines and organising teach outs.

Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for further information.
