SU Win: London Living Wage for All Student-Staff

Thursday 01-08-2019 - 12:10

You may remember, but at our 2018 Annual General Meeting, students passed a motion calling on Elior, the University's catering company to pay London Living Wage to all of its staff. Following lobbying from the Students' Union's past few Officer Teams, Students and Kingston University's Unison Branch - we're pleased to say that as of 1st August 2019, Elior is now paying all of its staff the London Living Wage!

But that's not just all. The University itself has followed suit, and now, all student staff working for the University will be paid the hourly London Living Wage, to recognise the rising cost of living and commuting in London.

We're absolutely delighted that the University and Elior have followed the Students' Union and are now paying London Living Wage.

But that's not just all.

There's no time like the present to announce, that as of June 2019, we have become a Living Wage Accredited organisation - meaning that we've committed to keep paying the London Living Wage to all of our student staff, and to keep increasing the wage along with the annual increased amount! We recognise that you put in hard work as student staff, and that you should be properly compensated for it.

What next?

Well, we'll be making the suggestion that since they are paying London Living Wage, perhaps Elior and the University should join us in becoming accredited by the Living Wage Foundation.
