Student Council Nominations are NOW OPEN!

Student Council is the place where you can have your voice heard by your union and university, but why would you want to get involved? Read on to find out how.

Why be a Student Councillor?

1.    Every KU student can attend Council Meetings, but only Student Councillors have the power to vote on policies – this is your chance to improve your uni!
2.    You will be responsible for holding your elected officers to account to make sure they are fulfilling the promises they made to students.
3.    You will be participating in extra-curricular activities, which you can add to your CV! (Check out why that matters here!)
4.    Gain key skills that you can include on your CV to help improve your employability, such as: communication, leadership and teamwork!
5.    You’d be in a unique position that has the potential to make a difference to the life of all students at Kingston University.

What position could I stand for?

1.    Independent Chair: This position is open to all students and will be elected through a cross-campus ballot. The Independent Chair governs each meeting by making sure all items on the agenda are discussed and everyone’s views are heard and a clear decision is reached, all within the agreed time frame of the meeting. Think John Bercow! The Chair must be organised, confident and most importantly be impartial!

2.    4 Campus Reps: These positions are open to all students and will be elected through a cross-campus ballot. You will run to represent the campus most of your lectures take place. You will have the opportunity to discuss issues that need to be resolved on your campus and vote in a way that reflects the students you represent.

3.    4 Senior Course Reps: These positions are only open to Senior Course Reps and you will be elected by course reps to decide who will represent t group on Student Council.

4.    10 Community Group Reps: Each Community Group will elect their own representative to act for them on Student Council. To run to be a Community Rep you must first be a member of that community, which you can join by signing up on our website! Click here for more info on our community groups.

5.    4 Open Positions: These positions are open for all students to run for and will be elected by a cross-campus ballot. These roles will focus on a campaign idea that a student is passionate about, which the students will then
