It’s safe to say that Save a Baby’s Life Kingston (SABL) had an amazing September! In its maiden year as a society, we managed to secure over 150 signups at Fresher’s Fair – recruiting students from a diverse range of courses and backgrounds. It was so great to see so much enthusiasm and interest in our society – boding very well for the future.

Earlier in September, two of our committee members Oliver and Mikail represented SABL at the annual Baby and Toddler Show at Sandown Racecourse in Epsom, where they collaborated with members from the RLSS to deliver first aid workshops to parents at the exhibition. In all, over 500 parents were trained up in CPR over the course of the weekend, a feat we are most proud of.

Following on from our amazing Fresher’s Fair, SABL organised 3 fun and entertaining taster sessions on Campus, consisting of a training session followed by a social in town. During the training, attendees learnt critical paediatric first aid techniques, mingled with our epic committee, as well as making friends with their fellow freshers. Donations for the Royal Life Saving Society were also secured via donation envelopes at the end of sessions – money which will go directly to fund more lifesaving sessions across the country! After the training session, we held a social at Zizzi where attendees, many of whom were from completely different courses and backgrounds could socialise and meet new people in a more casual environment. It is a key goal of ours to create a SABL family where members can feel at home and part of something special, and that is exactly what we have begun to achieve.

However, it is in embedded in our ethos to remain dynamic and keep looking forward. We aim to fully train new members in Life Support 3 and Community Instructor qualifications with the RLSS in due course, following which we are looking to organise training sessions for parents at Old Malden Children’s centre and primary schools across Kingston. These training sessions will work towards our key mission of ensuring every parent in Kingston knows how to save the life of their child.

Finally, we are also very excited to announce that there is a collaboration Halloween dress-up Party with KU Biomed Society in the works, which will bring together two brilliant societies and their members under one roof. We vehemently believe that teamwork is dream work!
