And that’s a wrap! The academic impact awards are over for another year.

This year was different – we swapped our fancy formal affair with sit down meal for announcements on Instagram from our front rooms… it’s the first time we’ve ever held the awards virtually!

But we could not let the current pandemic overshadow the brilliant work both staff and students have done this year, which is what inspired us to continue to bring you the Academic Impact Awards. and fyi, we’ve been inspired!

Well done to our winners and runners up (you can see a full list of everyone who won here) for their amazing work – may you continue to remind us all that we can all be better, even during strange times like this.

We are also honoured to be able to dedicate one of our awards to an incredible member of staff, Emily Hughes, who sadly passed away in April. To recognise and honour the dedication and impact Emily had on students at KU, we have permanently renamed the Supporting the Student Voice Award to ‘The Emily Hughes Award: Supporting the Student Voice’. Each year we will remember and celebrate the impact Emily had on countless students at KU by recognising other staff members who, like Emily, work hard to ensure our students are supported. This is the legacy of support and care for students that Emily has left. Our condolences go out to Emily’s friends and family. Thank you to Jenni Woods who helped make renaming this award possible.

We also want to thank everyone who nominated someone, judged on our panel and worked on these awards behind the scenes – without you these awards would not have been possible.

And thank you, for being there, watching us announce the awards and by sharing these great achievements with others!

We look forward to celebrating these awards with you next year – we will have to make up for missing this one!
